Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/8 tsp ground thyme

Method

Cook the Onion and Garlic
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and carrots and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Brown the Meat
  1. Add in the ground beef to the pot and cook until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
Add Remaining Ingredients
  1. Stir the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and all seasonings.
Simmer
  1. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook uncovered for 30–60 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the deeper the flavor will become and the thicker the sauce will be. Put a lid on at any point if desired to keep the liquid in and stop it from thickening more.
Serve
  1. Serve over cooked spaghetti noodles and top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese if desired. (You can find my homemade noodle recipe here)
