Easy Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

Soft, fluffy sourdough cinnamon rolls filled with buttery cinnamon sugar and topped with creamy cream cheese frosting. A cozy, from-scratch breakfast the whole family will love.

Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 1 cup active starter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
For the Cinnamon Filling
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp cinnamon
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 4 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3-5 tbsp milk

Method
 

  1. Whisk together starter, milk, honey, egg, melted butter, and salt.
  2. Stir in flour until combined. Cover and rest 1 hour.
  3. Perform 4 sets of stretch & folds, 30 minutes apart.
  4. Let rest 1 hour, or refrigerate overnight for a long ferment.
  5. Roll dough into a large 12-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Spread with the cinnamon filling, roll tightly, and slice into 1-inch rolls.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish or cast iron skillet and let rise again, until noticeably puffy.
  8. Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. Beat glaze ingredients, adding powdered sugar last, until smooth and fluffy.
  10. Spread or drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!
